Remy Ma started the year off with the undeniable diss track “Shether,” a bombardment of Jab after jab spanning almost seven minutes long, but nearly nine months after the fact things have been quiet for the rapper. The follow up diss “Another One” was unnecessary, her feature on Mariah Carey’s “I Don’t” felt out of place and pretty much everything else failed to garner lots of attention or translated into chart success. But Remy is looking to get that spark back with her newest single.
“Wake Me Up” samples Kim’s “Queen Bitch” and has Remy rapping how she’s supposed to, grimy. Her first verse starts off a little slow for me but eventually picks up speed before the chorus and continues on her second verse. Lil Kim uses autotune to rap the chorus and bridge (She also does this on her new single “Took Us a Break”), it’s good knowing Kim is making music again but the autotune seriously needs to go.
